We have Automated gates, railings, fire escapes, balustrades and bespoke wrought ironremote control gates work throughout the UK.  Our products are installed in or near and can be supplied to the following locations.
NH Fabrications’ sliding gates are the perfect solution for restricted parking areas or where a sloping driveway retricts the use of traditional inward swinging gates.
There are several other advantages over swing gates including increased security and less vulnerability in high wind loading situations.
Steel sliding gates don't have to be 'industrial looking', we have commissioned many traditional or ornate sliding gates designs, many of which have been made to look like a pair of swing gates.
Our automatic sliding steel gate range can be divided into four categories.

Standard Design Styles
Bespoke Design Styles
Industrial/Commercial
Agricultural Farm gates
Note: The above categories can be manufactured as tracked or cantilever systems.

Construction

Our standard and bespoke steel sliding gates are manufactured to the highest standards and are designed specifically to take gate automation, safety devices and access controls.

Our steel gates are beautiful crafted and once fully welded and assembled they are zinc rich primed to prevent future corrosion. Hot dip galvanizing is available as an extra over option - POA.
Finishing
If you need to a gate to complement your corporate livery, special colours are available upon request - if possible, please specify the appropriate RAL colour or BS reference.

Most gates usually receive a satin black top coat finish.
Finials can be left black or highlighted by a process called patination, this dry brush process subtly finishes the finials in gold, silver, bronze or verdi-gris highlights.

We can also create beautiful fence and railing designs to complement your entrance gates.

Industrial/Commercial

We have the capability of supplying and installing large automatic sliding gates up to 10m in width and up

Most applications have called for high security, generally we specify palisade type vertical rail for this purpose.

So, if you are concerned about improving security at your factory or storage premises, please contact us.

Agricultural and Equestrian Gates

We have experienced a growing demand for increased security and access control on working farms, veterinary surgeries and equestrian centres.

The design style of the gate can be made to suit the rural location, for instance the 5 bar gate with a single apex style as shown opposite is a popular choice.
Swing Gates
NH Fabrications provides remote control electric swing gates in a variety of materials and design styles, all produced and installed to the highest standards.

Whilst swing gates are still one of the most popular type of gates installed in either a single or double leaf the sliding gate system is always worth serious consideration for extra security.

Tracked Systems

As the name suggests, tracked systems employ a ground track along which slides the main gate leaf by means of 2 no. Wheels or Rollers housed within the bottom rail.

The gate is held up-right by a guide rail and 2 no. Guide rollers positioned at the middle or top rail, which in turn is supported by steel posts on the inside of the entrance.

In the manual mode the gate is very easy to slide open and closed as the roller wheels incorporate precision bearings.

The method of automating is based on a rack and pinion basis, the motor unit has a drive gear which engages into a linear rack positioned on the lower rear face of the gate, the gear wheel simply drives the gate open and closed.

The motor incorporates a control card which can be set up to achieve the correct closing force and set open/close limits.

Sliding Gate Systems will need to include appropriate safety devices to ensure complete safety.

Safety requirements will be identified during a site survey/risk assessment and may include the following:-
 Leading Edge Safety Strips
 Photocells/Safety Beams
 Induction Ground Loop Detectors
Force Limitation – Motors
Signage or warning lights
Cantilever Systems

Cantilever sliding gate systems do not require a ground track - this can be advantageous where the driveway entrance slopes or minimal disturbance to the driveway surface is requested.

The main design difference from a tracked system is that the cantilever system has a special section bottom rail in which incorporates two sets of enclosed roller wheels set apart at a pre- determined distance to a large concrete foundation base.

The cantilever sliding gate is approx 1/3 longer than a tracked slider, the extra length acts as a counterbalance so that the gate is free to slide back and forth, supported throughout the entire opening/closing width by the roller wheels within the bottom rail.

There is a slam post assembly at one end and stops at the other end, often the lower leading egde has a wheel which engages into a guide/shoe to ensure correct engagement upon closing.

The gate is held up-right by a guide rail and 2 no. Guides positioned at the mid or top rail height.

In the manual mode the gate is very easy to slide open and closed as the roller wheels incorporate precision bearings.

Sliding gate systems will need to include appropriate safety devices to ensure they meet the latest European safety legislation.

Safety requirements will be identified during a site survey/risk assessment and may include the following:-
Leading Edge Safety Protection Strips
Photocells/Safety Beams
Induction Ground Safety Loop Detectors
Obstacle Detection and Force Limitation

Underground Units
Underground Units or motors comprise of a underground ‘foundation box’ which is positioned at the base of a pier or posts, either in between or behind the pier or posts.

Underground Units are suitable for Timber, Steel and Aluminium gates.
We install a special bottom ‘adaptor shoe’ which interface between the bottom rail and the motor drive arm. The Top Hinge arrangement incorporates an adjustable feature for setting the gates up and to allow for any future adjustment requirements.

Underground motors are often specified for ornamental steel gates because the motors do not impose on the overall aesthetic appearance of the gate.

There are two types underground motors a) Electro-Mechanical, b) Hydraulic.

Both types can cover a wide range of gate sizes and weights – our surveyor will help identify the one that best suits your specific application.

Emergency Override

All types of motors incorporate an emergency manual override feature so that gates can be overridden in the event of a power failure or emergency
Surface Mounted Rams
Surface Mounted Rams or ‘Rear’ Surface Mounted Rams are usually the most cost effective means of automating gates as there is less ground work required compared to that of installing an underground motor foundation box(s).

Rear Surface Mounted Rams are installed to the rear face of an inward swing gate, generally it is best to have the inside or back of the gate running flush with the back face of a pier or posts in order that the correct geometry can achieved.

It is always best to discuss the proposed fitting position with our surveyor prior the constriction of brick or stone piers as this can avoid any potential costly mistakes should the set up geometry not be achievable.

Rear Surface Mounted Rams are suitable for Timber, Steel and Aluminium gates.

We recommend that the Bottom and Top Hinge Brackets incorporate an adjustable feature for setting the gates up and to allow for any future adjustment requirements.

Rear Surface Mounted Rams are not unattractive and can be specified for ornamental steel gates or timber gates – fully boarded or open pale designs.

Often these units come in a light aluminium finish, in some cases they can be over painted without affecting the manufacturers warranty.

There are two types of Surface Mounted Rams  a) Electro-Mechanical, b) Hydraulic.

Both types can cover a wide range of gate sizes and weights – our surveyor will help identify the one that best suits your specific application.
Note: There is also a motor unit which incorporates an ‘articulated arm’ this motor is particularly useful for automating existing gates mounted in between and wide brick or stone pier.
Emergency Override

All electric gate motors incorporate an emergency manual override feature so that gates can be overridden in the event of a power failure or emergency
Sliding Gate Motors
Sliding motors can specified for ornamental steel gates, solid boarded timber gates, domestic and industrial applications – they do not impose on the overall aesthetic appearance of the gate as the are positioned inside or behind a pier or post.

Sliding gate motors are generally Electro-Mechanical and can be specified for use with single or three phase power.

There are many makes and models covering wide range of gate sizes and weights – our surveyor will help identify the one that best suits your specific application.

Emergency Override

All types of motors incorporate an emergency manual override feature so that gates can be overridden in the event of a power failure or emergency.

In some cases sliding gate motors can be specified with a battery back up which allows the override feature to be activated by remote control – handy for solid boarded gates where there is no other access to property than the main gate entrance.
Safety Equipment
Machinery Directive 98/37/EC and European Standards EN12453/45 EN12604/5 apply to all automatic gate and door systems – the prime objective is to avoid injury and ensure safe usage by all persons.

Identifying, specifying and installing the correct safety equipment is achieved by carrying out a comprehensive site survey and a thorough Risk Assessment prior to completing the installation.

It is important to understand how the proposed gate system will be used and who by.

Identification of potential hazards including all potential trap zones is critical.

Once these have been identified it is then important that appropriate safety devices and equipment are specified.

Safety Devices/Equipment may include the following:-
Leading Edge Safety Strips
Photocells/Safety Beams
Induction Ground Loop Detectors
Force Limitation – Motors
Signage or warning lights
